32 DIE IN RAIL DISASTER

AT least 32 people were killed and 26 injured when a passenger train derailed and overturned between the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and the port city of Mombasa early on Wednesday, police said. Of the injured, 23 are deemed in critical condition. The Kenyan army and African Medical and Research Foundation have sent plane to assist in evacuating the wounded. The accident occurred between Kyulu and Tsavo river next to Tsavo National Park in southern Kenya as the train was going down a steep slope. Police spokesperson Albert Waweru said some carriages fell off the tracks. Kenya Railways Corporation has been experiencing financial problems and recently sacked dozens of workers in a restructuring programme ahead of privatisation.
