THE state and prosecutors’ unions struck a deal on Wednesday that will see prosecutors receive another 9% pay increase, in addition to the 6% paid to them in December. “I hope [the rise] will boost the morale of prosecutors and that we see an immediate change in service delivery,” said National Director of Public Prosecutions Bulelani Ngcuka, announcing the agreement in Pretoria. The increase is effective immediately and will be backdated to December 1. Ngcuka added that prosecutors will receive an additional 3% next September 1 if they meet performance targets set out in the agreement.
