IT took Wayne Ferreira two hours and 46 minutes of intense tennis to give South Africa its first Davis Cup win in two years on Sunday. The world number 30 came back from two sets to one down to quell Belorussian Vladimir Voltchkov 6-0, 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in their Euro-Africa Zone Group I tie at the Rondebosch courts here. With South Africa already 2-1 up against Belarus going into Sunday, Ferreira’s victory put the country into a promotion-relegation tie for a berth in the World Group from September 24 to 26. The draw for that tie will be made in London on Thursday. With the contest decided, David Nainkin played a dead rubber against junior Sergei Samoseiko Sunday afternoon, which he won 6-2,6-2 to give South Africa a 4-1 victory in the tie.
