MADIBA ‘BUILDING MAPUTO MANSION’

PRESIDENT Nelson Mandlela is planning to build an R8-million house in the Mozambican capital Maputo, Afrikaans daily Beeld reports. The paper said Mandela is to build the house to share with his wife Graa Machel in the upmarket Summer Shields suburb, a stone’s throw from the home of Mozambican President Joachim Chissano. The newspaper said the couple has bought a plot of land in Summer Shields, and have had a South African architect design them an R8-million home. It is believed Mandela and Machel will alternate between their homes in Johannesburg and Maputo and Mandela’s family home in Qunu, Transdkei. Mandela’s spokesman Parks Mankahlana would not comment on the issue, saying it is a private matter.
