FOLLOWING an announcement of a 22% rise in Pick ‘n Pay’s earnings, the firm made an executive shake-up, naming Sean Summers the chief executive officer. Summers, formerly managing director, will replace Raymond Ackerman, the founder of the chain over 30 years ago. Curiously, Ackerman will remain “full-time hands-on chairman”, indicating a degree of day-to day control of the firm. Summers’ promotion is an overt part of Pick ‘n Pay’s “succession planning”.
