OIL FIRM SUES NIGERIAN GOVT

A NIGERIAN oil firm, Petrogas and Energy plc, is suing the military government over the controversial allocation last month of 11 oil prospecting licences, a report said on Wednesday. Petrogas lawyer Peresuo Isaac-Dema said military ruler General Abdulsalami Abubakar and other top officials have been named as respondents in the case, the newspaper This Day reports. The government announced last month that it was allocating prospecting licences for 11 major oil blocks to a group of little-known Nigerian oil firms. No public tender took place for the licences, and questions arose immediately over how the awards were made.
