BUS STRIKE MOVES INTO DAY EIGHT

A NATIONAL strike by bus operators looks set to move into its eighth day on Friday as talks between union members and the South African Bus Employer’s Association remain deadlocked. The three participating unions — the Members Transport and General Workers’ Union, the Transport and Allied Workers’ Union, the Western Cape Omnibus Staff Union and the Transport and Omnibus Workers’ Union — on Thursday voted to continue with the strike action if employers does not accept their revised 10% wage demand. Negotiations are under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
