RUBEN FOR BOK CAPTAIN?

WITH the Springboks facing a captaincy crisis, why not bring back inspirational flank Ruben Kruger, who led the Northern Bulls in their best-yet Super 12 outing on Saturday, to skipper the national side? Springbok captain Gary Teichmann, vice-captain Joost van der Westhuizen and the man tipped to usurp Teichmann, Bobby Skinstad, are all sidelined with injury. And the Boks face three weeks of Tests, against Italy on June 12 and 19 and Wales on the 26th.

After the Kruger’s spectacular performance in lifting the Bulls game, who were unlucky to lose when All Black flyhalf Andrew Mehrtens slotted an injury time drop goal, why not the man considered the best flank in the world when he played in the 1995 World Cup victory?
