FIFA PROMISES DEVELOPMENT AID

INTERNATIONAL football federation FIFA is to put in place two multi-million dollar aid packages to help develop football in Africa, Michel Platini, special advisor to FIFA president Sepp Blatter, revealed on Friday. Platini, who is heading a FIFA delegation to West Africa, said that that the organisation is committed to giving $1-million over four years to each national federation. An additional aid package – called the “goal programme” – with funds of up to $80-million – will also be put at the disposal of various national federations selected by FIFA. The funds will come from new television rights deals negotiated prior to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
