AN inquiry into why Trevor Tutu, the wayward son of Truth and Reconciliation Commission chairman Desmond Tutu, failed to appear in court last November to face reckless driving charges has been scheduled for May 17. Tutu, who was found guilty on a charge of reckless driving on April 19, will also be sentenced on that day. This follows a four-car pile-up in Acorn Lane, Lower Houghton on January 22 last year in which two people were injured. He failed to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court in November to face the charge and he also failed to appear timeously on another date, arriving at court at 3pm instead of 9am. The case was postponed on Monday due to the defence attorney being ill.
