DANES GIVE MUYONGO ASYLUM

FORMER Caprivi opposition leader Mishake Muyongo and ex-Mafwe Chief Boniface Mamili left Botswana for Denmark on Monday after being granted residence rights by the Scandinavian country. A senior representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees confirmed that Denmark has agreed to take the two men. Another 13 exiled Namibians are still awaiting confirmation on which countries will accept them. Muyongo and Mamili fled to Botswana last October after a fledgling separatist movement was uncovered in the Caprivi. In the following months more than 2400 Caprivians crossed into Botswana – some of them Muyongo supporters; others fleeing security sweeps by Namibian security forces.
