SEVERAL Zimbabwean soldiers are missing in the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the army will only give details when the war ends, a Zimbabwean newspaper reported on Wednesday. “It is only at the end of the campaign that I … will compile a report which details all we have lost in terms of manpower and equipment,” Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Vitalis Zvinavashe told the Daily News. An army spokesman said information on missing troops is being withheld to protect them from being hunted down by the enemy. President Robert Mugabe has deployed more than 6000 soldiers, over a fifth of the Zimbabwean army, and heavy armour in the DRC. Mugabe’s government has admitted the death of nearly 40 soldiers and the capture of 15. Military sources say however more than 200 have been killed.
