TENDULKAR LEADS INDIA TO VICTORY

INDIAN master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was deified by the Indian media on Monday for leading his country to a World Cup victory with a personal score of 140 not out despite the death of his father. The diminutive 26-year-old’s first performance on the pitch after his father’s death hogged the front pages of all Indian newspapers, who focused on the fact he had placed his country above personal tragedy. India trounced Kenya at Bristol on Sunday with Tendulkar scoring his 22nd century in a one-day match, despite being jet-lagged after returning from his father’s funeral in India. “I did it for my father and my country,” an emotionally charged Tendulkar said after the scintillating innings. “This was a difficult, but special occasion.”
