SuperSport humble Amakhosi 2-1

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Saturday 7.00pm.

SUPERSPORT United took home a 2-1 victory in the BobSave Super Bowl, gaining the trophy and denying the Chiefs a Manchester United-style treble at FB stadium on Saturday.

Chiefs will have to be satisfied with the Rothmans Cup and the League title, and neither team went out of their way to give the fans a thrilling, or even exciting final game.

Despite controlling the flow of play in teh first half, Chiefs could not finish, and SuperSport took an early 1-0 lead. Chiefs misplayed fully six chances in early exchanges, adn never really recovered. Robert Nauseb, Pollen Ndlanya, adn Doctor Khumalo all missd chances to put their team ahead.

Chiefs paid the price for sloppy defending when Michael Araujo threaded past two defenders and dished the gravy to Thomas Madigage, who whipped the ball past Baloyi to make it 1-0 in the 39th minute.

After Chiefs squandered several more chances, including Ndlanya blasting one wide into the crowd. Then Araujo put a free kick past the wall and Salmon used his head to go up 2-0 after 78 minutes. Chiefs were all but beaten when Ndlanya converted a penalty kick in optional time.

SuperSport United go home with the silverware and R800000, which should find its way into Pretoria’s economy over the next few months.
