APOLOGISE TO HOLOMISA, SAYS ANC

THE African National Congress on Friday urged student supporters who disrupted an election address by the leader of a rival party to apologise in a bid to calm pre-election tension in South Africa. An address at the University of the Western Cape by Bantu Holomisa, leader of the United Democratic Movement was disrupted on Thursday by about 1000 students waving ANC banners, the latest in a series of clashes between rival supporters. Holomisa was ushered away by bodyguards, who at one stage scuffled with students wanting to approach Holomisa. Students at the University of Fort Hare were also asked to apologise by the ANC for preventing Holomisa from addressing a rally there on Tuesday night.
