ANC AND IFP AGREE TO NEGOTIATE OVER KWANATAL

Both the Inkatha Freedom Party and the African National Congress on Monday gave the thumbs up to negotiations on a government of provincial unity in KwaZulu-Natal. At a meeting of the ANC’s extended national working committee in Johannesburg on Monday, the party’s leadership resolved to continue negotiations with the IFP to consolidate peace, socio-economic change and stability. The IFP, meanwhile, said that although a decision had yet to be made on forming a provincial government, voters had sent a clear message to the IFP and ANC that it wished to see the two parties continue to build on the progress of recent years. The IFP has a slim majority over the ANC in the province, with the Democratic Party polling the third most support.
