FIERCE FIGHTING IN NORTHERN ANGOLA

FIERCE fighting was reported on Wednesday in Angola’s northern Vije province, where UNITA rebels have taken the Ambuila district. According to humanitarian aid sources, clashes in the region have intensified since the end of last month in western and southwestern parts of the province. Aid workers say delivering relief to victims of the fighting is impossible. Security has also deteriorated on the road from Luanda to the northern Malanhe province, access to which is controlled by rebels of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola.
