GANGA TO RESIGN AS AFRICAN OLYMPIC HEAD

JEAN-CLAUDE Ganga, one of six International Olympic Committee members expelled from the organisation in March for taking bribes, is to resign as president of the African Olympic body, a South African Olympic official said on Monday. Ganga is expected to leave the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) at an extraordinary meeting in Johannesburg from September 6 to 8. Dan Moyo, secretary-general of South Africa’s National Olympic Committee (Nocsa), said Ganga had agreed to step down after his implication in the Salt Lake City bidding scandal. “His resignation will be accepted at the extraordinary meeting and we expect to elect a new president during the general assembly afterwards,” Moyo said. Nocsa president Sam Ramsamy said it was impossible for Ganga to remain as Anoca president after being expelled from the IOC.
