Pollock flays Notts

WEDNESDAY, 6.30PM:

SOUTH AFRICAN all-rounder Shaun Pollock made the most of the chance to hone his batting when he clubbed a depleted Nottinghamshire attack all over Trent Bridge on Wednesday.

Pollock hit 87 off just 59 deliveries to take the tourists to a commanding 50-over total of 284/6.

The 25-year-old Natalian spent his hour at the wicket well, plundering four fours and five sixes in his whirlwind innings. Pollock and fellow all-rounder Brian McMillan put on 109 for the fifth wicket off 80 deliveries.

McMillan scored 62 off 80 balls, pedestrian compared to Pollock’s innings, but the big Capetonian will be well satisfied. A Test recall after Wednesday’s performance might well be on the cards for the wily veteran.

Adam Bacher and gerry Liebenberg’s tussle for the second opening berth, has still not been settled, with Liebenberg scoring 13, and Bacher getting 39.
