SADTU RAISES HELL IN MPUMALANGA

THE South African Democratic Teacher’s Union has cut ties with the Mpumalanga education department, insisting more officials were involved in the recent matric exam scandal than just the two senior officials who were fingered two weeks ago. Former education MEC David Mabuza suspended the department’s chief education specialist Gogo Alphina Anna Ndlovana, and first education specialist, Kate Mokone, after an internal probe found they were responsible for inflating the matric results by 20%, to 72,5%. But Sadtu feels there are still more officials implicated in the matric scandal, and fears that they may tamper with the special supplementary examinations. Sadtu has withdrawn its members from the provincial advisory committee and curriculum. It is also calling for the suspension of departmental head Faith Sithole, the final accounting officer in the department.
