You’d better shape up, you’d better not cry, you’d better go shop, I’m telling you why … Tidy Trax is coming to town. Yep, the amazingly successful United Kingdom dance label launches an aural attack on our local rave floors at the weekend’s Mother rave, taking place in Cape Town on Friday June 25 at Pure, and in Johannesburg on Saturday June 26 at the brand new Mother venue.
Tidy Trax was launched in 1995 and released some mellower tracks like U Found Out by The Handbaggers. Since then the label has moved on into harder territory with the Untidy Dubs EP of 1997 and further remixes, which made even the big boys like Tony de Vit and Ian M sit up and take notice.
Providing the tunes to shake your shapely behind to will be DJs Andy and Amadeus Mozart from Tidy Trax with their hard- hitting house. Also featuring is Tidy Girl DJ Anne Savage, Mixmag’s Star of ’98, who has been spinning her discs worldwide, treating dance-hungry audiences to anything from deep to euphoric house.
Local talent features prominently with DJ Neil Ward, the winner of the New Whizz Kid on the Decks Challenge, kicking off the night of debauchery with a 60-minute set on the main dance floor. Derek “The Bandit” Richardson will make his usual sunrise set appearance to keep you up long after you should have been snugly asleep.
The new Mother venue in Johannesburg is worth a mention. Moving on from the arched hallways and cavernous spaces of the Johannesburg station, ravers can now lace up their Buffalos and head for Industria’s Motor City (on Main Reef Road). Sporting two dance floors (the Tidy Trax floor as well as a Johannesburg floor), themed chill rooms for the weak of body and mind, and a separate VIP building with a dance floor overlooking the main floor, it sounds like a party palace of note.
Hey, they even have a coat check – just be glad you’re not the one who’ll have to keep track of 10 000 fashionable jackets.
