Bafana profit from Namibian loss

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Friday 2.45pm.

BAFANA Bafana will be delighted to know that key Namibian defender Mohamed Auseb will not be playing in the two countries’ Cosafa Castle Cup quarterfinal in Windhoek on July 31.

Auseb is under suspension after picking up two bookings in Cup matches against Lesotho and Malawi. Namibia will surely feel the star’s loss.

Auseb gives cohesion and ledership to Namibia, and they will be in need of both when facing Moloto’s talent-laden Bafana squad. His absence increases the chances that Bafana Bafana can win this crucial qualifying match.

The last time the two teams met, Namibia humbled South Africa 3-2 in Windhoek under Jomo Sono in last year’s African Nations Cup. The shock was only avenged in the finals of that competition when SA dominated 4-1.

It was after Auseb’s show against a full-strength Bafana Bafana outfit that he was quickly snapped up by Kaizer Chiefs where he went on to play a key role in the success of the Amakhosi last season.

Trott Moloto is out of the country, and will announce the side to face Namibia on his return.
