SURFING TITLE ON LINE

THE R903 500 Billabong MSF Pro Championships will run a full day of surfing on Tuesday in excellent half to one metre conditions at Supertubes Jeffrey’s Bay, where the womens’ event will crown a champion by the end of the day. Womens world champion and current ratings leader Layne Beachley (Aus) will open the surfing today and will clash with fellow Australians Yvonne Rogencamp and Samantha Cornish. Wildcard Cornish is a dark horse for the womens title given her form shown at the fabled Supertubes point. Defending women’s champion Trudy Todd (Aus) currently ranked seventh, will be up against Melanie Redman (Aus) and Sandie Dryden (Aus) in heat four of round three. Todd opened up her title defence in fine form in round one, posting scores in excess of 8,0 out of a possible 10 for her tube riding skills. Redman, ranked sixth, has proved to be the highest womens points scorer of the tournament thus far, posting 20.25 out of a possible 30 points in her opening performance in round one, making her a serious obstacle for Todd en route to her second Billabong MSF Pro title.
