SASOL TO DOUBLE GAS PRODUCTION

SASOL Synthetic Fuels said on Tuesday that its R38-million new plant at Secunda is to double its production of krypton and xenon to meet international demands for the rare gases. It said that an additional 4,9-million litres of of krypton and 1,3-million litres of xenon will be produced a year for the international market. the additional quantities will boost the company’s annual production to 9,5-million litres of krypton and 2,5-million litres of xenon, making it the world’s largest producer of the rare gases, which are extracted from the atmosphere at its oxygen plant. The world’s current consumption of krypton is about 30 million litres a year and that of xenon about 4,5 million litres a year.
