POLICE at Bushbuckridge in the Northern Province are targeting crime’s apprentices at more than a dozen schools in the area. On Tuesday a crime awareness campaign was launched at Mathiphe High in Marite, Bushbuckridge, and representatives from more than 12 schools, including pupils and teachers, attended. The plan is to stamp out crime at school before pupils leave to begin their adult lives. Police are hoping that the campaign will help identify pupils who smuggle drugs and abuse fellow pupils. The lowveld area head of community policing, Captain Welsh Hlongwani, talked to pupils during the launch about drugs, child abuse and the role of the community in crime prevention.
