WINNIE ADDRESSES UMTATA WOMEN

ANC Women’s League president Winnie Madikizela-Mandela urged all league office bearers recently removed from their positions in an apparent power struggle “to go forward” at a Women’s Day rally in Umtata on Sunday. Madikizela-Mandela drew loud applause from the more than 10000 women, many from the Transkei’s rural areas, at the rally when she said: “No one will privatise the ANC and think such a move will derail the mighty spirit of its women activists. The League urges all those women removed from their positions to go forward. “Our struggle was never about favouritism and the League is above cliques and bedroom politics.”
