MBEKI HAILS MBOWENI

PRESIDENT Thabo Mbeki called the inauguration of Tito Mboweni as the new governor of the South African Reserve Bank “an important day in our history”. Mboweni took over as governor of SARB from Dr Chris Stals on the stroke of midnight Saturday at a glittering banquet in Gallagher Estate in Midrand, north of Johannesburg. Stals, added Mbeki was one of the “architects” of change in assisting transformation. He said when former president Nelson Mandela asked Stals to stay on for another five years in 1994, Stals had no hesitation in doing so. Mbeki said that Stals similarly had no hesitation in supporting Mboweni.
