ACCUSED’S ATHLETIC PROWESS STARTLES COURT

AN alleged thief escaped from the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday when he vaulted over the dock and outran a startled policeman. Fleet-footed Sipho Makobo was in court with four alleged accomplices when he simply made a dash for it. Provincial police spokeswoman Inspector Olga Marais said on Tuesday that a court policeman who tried to catch Makobo fell and injured himself. Police have launched an inquiry into the incident and have issued a new arrest warrant for Makobo. The remaining four suspects were remanded to police custody after the disruption of the hearing.
