THE opening of the Gender Commission office in Parliament is the first step towards addressing the imbalances between men and women in the decision-making process, commission chair Joyce Seroke said on Wednesday. Speaking at the launch of the Gender Commission’s parliamentary and Western Cape offices, Seroke said the office in parliament would focus on gender issues in the formulation of legislation. “We will aim to ensure that the needs of the most marginalised of society are represented at the provincial and national levels,” she said. Seroke said the commission will work towards breaking the silence around gender issues and to give a voice to the most underprivileged of society.
