ELANA MEYER and Shadrack Hoff lead a strong contingent of South African distance runners to the IAAF World Half Marathon championships in Sicily on October 3. The team of five men and five women was selected after the Old Mutual Great South Run, which doubled as the national half marathon campionships, in Durban last weekend. Hoff, a track specialist running in only his second half marathon, surprised the quality field with his 62:04 win over the fast coastal course, while Meyer, the women’s world record-holder, enjoyed a quality training run in 70:15 for her victory.
