THE war of words between two of the country’s top soccer officials, had little to do with the World Cup bid campaign, South Africa Bid Committee chief executive Danny Jordaan said on Sunday. Top club bosses lashed out at each other at the weekend after Jomo Sono alleged that Kaizer Motaung and Bid Committee chairman Irvin Khoza were conspiring against him. Jordaan said the matter is a side issue which doesn’t affect the bid. Sono’s claim that he should be the sole ambassador in South Africa’s bid campaign was rejected by Motaung, who was appointed to that post by the South African Football Association president two weeks ago. Motaung reportedly said Sono needed “professional help” and he was being unrealistic when he demanded to be the sole ambassador in South Africa’s quest to host the 2006 World Cup. Khoza said he would not respond to the allegations, but that “history will judge him (Sono) accordingly”.
