PETROL RISES BY 13c/l

THE price of petrol is to rise by 13 cents a litre on Wednesday. The Central Energy Fund said the wholesale price of diesel will rise by 11c per litre and illuminating paraffin by 14c/l. Reacting to the announcement, the Automobile Association enewed its call on government to reduce the Equalisation Fund levy component of the petrol price to bring about a measure of relief for the motorist. The AA said that the synfuel tariff protection afforded by the Equalisation Fund largely fell away when the international crude oil price exceeded $17 a barrel. With the crude oil price hovering around the $20 mark for a few months a downwards adjustment in the levy is overdue.
