COLUMBUS STRIKERS DUE IN COURT

OVER 150 Columbus Stainless Steel workers are scheduled to appear in the Middelburg magistrate’s court on Thursday on intimidation and contempt of court charges. The 151 workers were arrested two months ago after allegedly defying a court order and trespassing on Columbus’ Middelburg plant during a wage dispute strike. The strike saw 500 National Union of Metalworkers Of South Africa (Numsa) members down tools for one month while they demanded a 7,3% wage increase and an additional 0,3% individual performance-based increase.
