UK FIRM TO BUY REUMECH

BRITISH engineer Vickers Plc is in talks to buy South African armoured car manufacturer Reumech for up to 50-million, the Sunday Telegraph reported. The deal is one of up to six moves to be announced by Vickers over the next two weeks, the newspaper said. Vickers announced on Thursday that it planned to spruce up its defence business and said that it would unveil a partner in the light armoured vehicle business within the next few weeks. The company, which makes Challenger 2 battle tanks for the Ministry of Defence, last year sold its Rolls Royce luxury car unit and shut a car plant in Northern England in order to focus on marine systems, turbine parts and defence.
