THE 11th International Conference on Aids and Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Africa takes place in the Zambian capital Lusaka from September 12 to 16. The theme of the conference is “Looking into the Future: Setting Priorities for HIV/Aids in Africa”. Sub-Saharan Africa is home to more than 70% of the world’s 33,4-million people living with HIV. United Nations statistics indicate that in 1998, Aids killed an estimated 1,4-million people in eastern and southern Africa and left six million children orphaned.
