THE Kenyan capital Nairobi has been selected as the host venue for the 2000 International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day knock-out competition. ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya said the Kenyan government had expressed full support for the event. “I had very constructive meetings with President Moi and senior ministers last week in Mombasa,” he said. “They were very supportive of ICC’s wish to stage the ICC knock-out in Kenya as part of our globalisation plans. “Kenya, like Bangladesh, has been awarded one-day international status. Bringing the knock-out to Kenya will give the game there a major boost.” The nine Test-playing nations will all participate in the tournament next October. The event is based on a knock-out format used successfully in the inaugural Wills International Cup staged in Dhaka last year, won by South Africa.
