POLICE in Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, recorded 7380 cases of murder between June 1994 and July this year, an average of 4,5 a day, according to a police report made public on Tuesday. The figure does not take account of those murders not reported to the police in Nigeria’s crime capital, home for an estimated eight million people, according to the report. Between June 1994 and July this year, police followed up some 10200 cases of armed robbery, but many others went unreported, it said. Between November 1997 and July 1999, 738 policemen were arrested for criminal offences, including armed robbery, stealing, bribery and fraud.
