SANTOS, SUPERSPORT DRAW 1-1

A LATE penalty in the first half saved Santos from defeat when they held Suersport United to a 1-1 draw in a Castle Premier League soccer fixture at the Caledonian Stadium on Friday night. United scored in the 17th minute when striker David Notoane, despite being closely marked, weaved his way through the tight Santos defence and sent a cross into the penalty area which was goaled by Tauya Mrewa. Clyde Mahlangu, however, got Santos off the hook when he fouled midfielder Abram Rasemane in the box. Referee Tiny Chandermoney pointed to the penalty spot and Kenyan defender Musa Otieno converted to make the half-time score 1-1. Neither team could bag the winner, however, and the match remained even.
