DANIELS HOPES FOR STRONG FINISH

SAMMY Daniels, by his own high standards, has not had the best of seasons locally. But the Cape professional is hoping to close off strongly with a win in his home province when the R200000 Vodacom Series: Western Cape tees off at the Rondebosch Golf Club from October 8-10. Daniels enjoyed one of his most successful seasons ever on the Vodacom Tour last year, winning two tournaments and the six-tournament Vodacom Series. This year, however, he has struggled to find his rhythm – mainly because of a sparse playing schedule – and looks set to lose his title of Vodacom Series champion. The Western Cape tournament closes off the six-tournament series. “Last year was phenomenal and it’s a pity I couldn’t keep that up. I was hoping to play just as well this year,” said Daniels. A good performance at Rondebosch will boost Daniels’ confidence ahead of the Asian Tour’s Singapore Open a week later.–MWP
