R21-M FOR ROAD RE-VAMP

THE National Road Agency has put up R21-million to maintain the R555, which will become an alternative to the Middelburg toll plaza in Mpumalanga. This follows complaints from residents at Middelburg and Witbank about the bad state of the road, which runs between them, NRA regional manager Johan Nothnagel said on Wednesday. ”We had to reshuffle our budget to accommodate the community,” he said. He said the road previously belonged to the provincial administration, which failed to maintain it before the Ministry of Transport declared it a national road at the end of last year. The R555 needs maintenance because of extra traffic following the opening of the toll plaza on the N4, as part of the R2 billion Maputo Corridor, he added.
