NIGERIA’s $5-M Y2K BUDGET

NIGERIA has approved a $5-million budget to fight the Y2K bug, a top government official said Wednesday. Muhammadu Bichi, chairman of the House of Representatives committee on science and technology, said that President Olusegun Obasanjo had already released $4-million dollars for the project. “We are fully convinced that the money so far released will solve the problem,” he said, adding: “We will take money from the contingency funds if it becomes necessary.” The project is aimed at ensuring that computers used in Nigeria’s industrial, banking and public sectors are protected from the millennium bug.
