ARSENAL’S KANU PAYS FOR MISSED PENALTY

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has relieved his Nigerian star Nwankwo Kanu of penalty-taking duties and could drop him altogether from the starting line-up for the Champions’ League clash with Swedes AIK Solna at Wembley on Wednesday. The Highbury cult hero is almost certain to be back on the substitutes’ bench from where he emerged in Florence last Tuesday to miss a spot-kick 12 minutes from the end of a goalless draw against Fiorentina. Dennis Bergkamp and Davor Suker are likely to be Arsenal’s strikers on Wednesday and even if Kanu appears as a sub Wenger insisted: ”If we get a penalty Kanu will not take it. ”It is too soon to put him back in that position even though he is a strong guy and will get over that miss in Florence. ”He was very down afterwards and could not even find the words to apologise to his team-mates.”
