A JOHANNESBURG court on Wednesday acquitted an American couple of bank fraud charges after a four-year trial, most of which they spent in jail. Magistrate M Krog pronounced Harold and Coralee Thomas not guilty on all charges relating to an alleged R3-billion bank scam. The couple, arrested on January 30, 1995, spent three years in custody before being able to secure bail after four applications were refused. During the course of the trial, some 4000 exhibits were handed in to the court and 10000 documents seized from the couple.
