ADVERTISING industry watchdog body, Advertising Standards Authority, on Thursday confirmed that it has received formal notification of an appeal from the Rape Crisis and Trauma Centre. This follows the Advertising Standards Committee’s ruling some ten days ago that the anti-rape commercial featuring Charlize Theron has to be amended to conform to the Advertising Code of Practice. The appeal process involves the issuing of the appeal papers to the various interested parties. The parties then have a reasonable period to respond. Presided over by Mervyn King SC in his capacity as President of the ASA, the Appeal Committee is the final decision making forum in the advertising complaints process. The ASA says every effort will be made to arrange the appeal as soon possible.
