PREACHER SUED IN NIGERIA

AN evangelical German preacher operating in Nigeria, Reinhard Bonnke, is being sued for $630000 dollars by the family of one of the victims of last week’s deaths at a crusade in southern Nigeria. 16 people died when a stampede broke out as a group of worshippers attempted to catch a glimpse of Bonnke, a controversial charismatic preacher, during a religious crusade in Benin last Tuesday. On Monday the brother of one of the victims Josephine Efemine slammed a 60 million naira suit on the preacher and seven others as damages for her death. In the suit, Osagiede said the family had to be compensated for the death of the mother of two who was “hale and hearty” until she died. Nigeria is host to numerous pentecostal and evangelical churches and is regularly visited by evangelical charismatic preachers.
