WP CRASH AND BURN

WESTERN Province slumped to 222 all-out on the first day of their four-day SuperSport Series match against KwaZulu-Natal at Newlands on Thursday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat the hosts were reduced to 74 for four by the first over after lunch with experienced campaigners Lloyd Ferreira, Brian McMillan, HD Ackerman and John Commins all back in the hut.

Only debutant Rashaad Magiet stood firm on his way to a solid knock of 46. He was dismissed with the score on 120, but it was a much-needed partnership with Ashwell Prince for Province, although his dismissal was a little soft as he was caught behind off the bowling of slow left armer Rob MacQueen.

It was left to Prince to carry the innings which he did with aplomb before losing his wicket with just nine overs remaining in the day with his score on 73.

This lead to a collapse as the last three WP wickets tumbled for just two runs.

Claude Henderson was not out on 23. The final wicket fell in the 102nd over and there was no time for the KwaZulu-Natal innings to commence. They will begin on Friday.
