AIR BOTSWANA TO REPLACE SUICIDE PLANES

AIR Botswana will replace thethree French-built ATR42-300 passenger planes destroyed by a suicide pilot last month with three new ATR42-500 planes before the end of the year, airline management said in a statement on Wednesday. “The three planes are being leased from Air Littoral in France. The first is due in Gaborone next week and will immediately go into service. The others will follow at two week intervals,” the statement said. Air Botswana’s original ATR42-300s were destroyed whenCaptain Chris Phatshwe (33) stole one of them from Sir Seretse Khama Airport on October 11 and crashed the large passenger plane into two stationary ATR42-300s on the apron. All three planes exploded, killing Phatshwe instantly and effectively destroying Air Botswana’s entire passenger fleet.
