MARTIN van Jaarsveld hit the highest score ever by a Northern Transvaal player as the Notherns Titans set themselves up for almost certain victory against Griqualand West in their Supersport Series match in Kimberley on Friday.
At close of play, Griquas had staggered to 175 for eight, still 387 runs behind the Titans mammoth first innings total of 562 for seven declared.
It simple turns, it means that Griquas are heading for another heavy defeat — perhaps worse than the eight wicket hammering they received against Border in East London last weekend.
It was Van Jaarsveld who effectively ruined any Griqua hopes as he stroked his way to 238. His innings lasted seven hours and 40 minutes, off 345 balls with 27 fours and a six.
Griquas responded like a team demoralised. Losing their first three wickets for just 12 runs, their task of even salvaging a draw is as remote as Pat Symcox not drawing on a cigarette tonight.
