BRITISH Aerospace said on Sunday that South Africa’s Denel Aviation will be the sole supplier of rudders and ailerons for the company’s Avro Regional Jet (RJ) airliner. Denel Aviation, a unit of state arms manufacturer Denel, will initially produce 18 rudder and aileron sets a year, British Aerospace said in a statement. The agreement carries an initial value of R65-million, based on a conservative market outlook for 150 new aircraft orders over the next nine years. British Aerospace will transfer advanced technology and expertise to Denel Aviation, the most significant being advanced metal-to-metal bonding, aerostructures and testing techniques.
