CELLULAR GIANT GIVES CRICKET R54M BOOST

CELLULAR telephone company MTN announced that it is to invest R54 million into cricket development over the next seven years, making it the game’s biggest national development sponsor, and the biggest sponsor of national schools cricket. The programme, the single biggest development sponsorship in the history of South African sport, will run until the end of the 2004/2005 cricket season. The sponsorship has been running for 18 months in co-operation with provincial unions, but was only announced on Tuesday to ensure that all projects are up and running. More than 200 schools round the country will benefit immediately.
